I am searching for a contemporary sacred language.

My art moves from icons to abstraction — from canon to open questions.

Studying at the Department of Sacred Art at the National Academy of Arts in Lviv gave me a thorough understanding of symbolic thinking and the tradition of icon painting. At the same time, it was this tradition that became the starting point for my own search: how to talk about the spiritual in a modern visual language.

For me, an icon is a perfect system of centuries-old experience of faith. Abstraction is a state, a moment, an emotional immersion that opens up differently each time. Abstraction cleanses the image of its literal meaning and translates it into the realm of questions.

What is it?

I leave this question open for myself and for the viewer.

I work with classical icon painting techniques, searching for new forms of expression in them. I convey the depth of the SKY through the multilayered wax in the encaustic technique — as a space in which the process of inner search is hidden. I describe the EARTH literally: I use stone, grind it into pigment to convey the materiality of the surface and its primary meaning. I explore the HEAVENLY WORLD in voluminous plastic forms, working with plaster and levkas, creating relief as a field of presence — where ANGELS and their messages may appear.

I am interested in the manifestation of the sacred through artistic means. I explore the themes of Light, the invisible presence of God, the Angelic world, rethinking traditional iconographic subjects through the mystical.

The sacred is an experience for me.

In my practice, I consciously experiment with materials and techniques: from classical iconography on wood with mineral pigments and egg yolk emulsion — to encaustic, relief abstraction, working with glass, textiles, paper… For me, technique is not decoration, but a way of thinking.

I do not seek to simplify theological meanings for the viewer. On the contrary, I try to convey the dogmas and beliefs of modern man in a language that does not impose answers, but creates space for internal dialogue.

Faith as a living process.

For me, the sacred is the point at which the answer appears. What I want to preserve and pass on is the experience of silence, deep mystical knowledge, peace, and dialogue between Man and God.

My art is an attempt to show how many signs and symbols surround us and how they can open up the SKY.
